Telehealth consultations now available

At Sutherland Physiotherapy we have always committed to constantly evolve, expand and improve our services to serve the community.

In light of recent events, everyone has had to adapt, and as a result we are excited to add telehealth consultations as a new service.

What is telehealth?

Telehealth is essentially an online video consultation.

The software is secure, easy to use and readily available on your computer or phone.

For those of you who are unable to leave your home, live in rural or remote areas, or do not have time to come into the clinic for a face-to-face appointment this is a perfect option for you!

Physiotherapy has of course been traditionally seen as a very ‘hands-on’ profession, however in reality it has a lot to do with putting together information that you provide us when we ask you specific questions, watching the way you move, and then determining the correct diagnosis.

From there we can develop a rehabilitation plan, prescribe exercises and educate you on how to best manage your symptoms – all of which can be done through a telehealth consultation!

There is so much that can be done through the telehealth space especially in situations where someone otherwise may not be able to access care at all.

In regards to safety, our physiotherapists act with the same professionalism, regard for confidentiality, and the high standard of care we would otherwise provide you if you were sitting in front of us.

We will also screen and advise you if we don’t think you are suitable for a telehealth consultation, the same way as we would screen you in the clinic to determine if you need a referral to another provider.

The Australian Physiotherapy Association has been working hard with private health insurers to allow patients to gain access to rebates for telehealth consultations, and today the government announced rebates through Medicare where appropriate.

It is an exciting and ever evolving space, and we will keep you informed as it progresses!
